The part of this story that bothers me the most is the manifesto written by this former judge for his new-found activism. He writes that we must confront our government officials who have taken away our freedom and our civil rights and civil liberties. It is hard to take coming from a man who sentenced this priest to more than 30 times the plea deal his court was willing to offer if Father MacRae would discard his own Constitutional rights to a fair trial and a presumption of innocence. He got neither.
