Vatican, Apr. 28, 2008 (CWNews.com) - At his Sunday audience on April 28, Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) remarked that his trip to the United States earlier in the month he found “great vitality and commitment to live and bear witness to the faith.” The Pope added that his trip had renewed his hope for the future of the Church in America.
Taking the theme of his remarks from the day’s reading from the Acts of the Apostles, the Holy Father said that all Christians should be involved in the work of promoting the Gospel message. Noting how the apostolic work of St. Philip in Samaria brought “great joy in that city,” the Pontiff encouraged all the faithful, especially the clergy, to “sow the joy of the Gospel in our world.”
Pope Benedict reminded his audience that the Orthodox churches that follow the old Julian calendar would be celebrating Easter that day. He offered his greetings to those churches and his prayer that “the triune God will confirm them in the faith and fill them with the radiant light that shines forth from our Lord’s Resurrection.” He went on to add a prayer of support for those Orthodox churches living in “difficult situations,” and an appeal for further progress toward ecumenical unity.
