'The Rite': Exorcism in the Movies

New film offers the most realistic, orthodox Hollywood depiction to date.

“There aren’t levitating beds, spinning heads or pea-green soup,” Father Gary Thomas said to me in a recent phone conversation.

Father Thomas is the real-life California exorcist whose training experiences with a veteran exorcist in Rome were documented in journalist Matt Baglio’s 2009 book The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist. The new supernatural horror/thriller film The Rite, starring Anthony Hopkins as a veteran exorcist named
Father Lucas, is loosely inspired by Father Thomas’ experiences.

The Rite is also the latest in a long line of Hollywood films in the exorcism-movie subgenre inaugurated by William Friedkin’s 1973 landmark film The Exorcist —the movie famous for levitating beds, spinning heads and pea-green soup.

A few recent films, including Scott Derrickson’s The Exorcism of Emily Rose, have taken the genre in a more restrained, realistic direction, and The Rite continues this trend, offering the most realistic, orthodox Hollywood depiction of exorcism to date. Where Emily Rose conflated months of exorcisms into a single dramatic episode, The Rite shows that battling possession can last weeks, months or even longer...

I can't watch this video. I would be too scared.

My neighbor just now called and told me that her mother was taking her brother to have him "Exorcised" in some protestant denomination this morning. I said, "I wish I had known, I would have sent some holy water with you," as I pondered how ineffectual and dangerous this will be.
Some people aren't smart enough to know that they're not qualified to play with fire.

Ha Ha.

The Devil teaching about devils.

The problem with the actual study of demons is that, for our intents, the information is full of theological errors. In other words, you will be up against heathen legend vs. Christian theology. It would be very difficult to sort it all out on your own. St. Albert the Great has some advice for you: "It is taught by the demons, it teaches about the demons, and it leads to the demons."

Hollywood arose and unleashed the dogs of War against the release of the Passion of Christ movie; they feared it would turn chucklehead Protestants Catholic, and help spread the Kingdom of Christ worldwide.

This movie is Hollywood’s little darling, because it does what Pope Saint Albert the Great warned of.

You can probably get free tickets to see it at the local Freemason Lodge.

Exorcism in Protestant gatherings works because it calls upon the Holy Name.

From what I have learned, the Protestants will have to account for using that Name of which they Protest through their heresies.

The devil has taunted them in the past during Exorcisms; they are too hard headed to understand the error of their ways, even after the devil calls them "MY children".

lets say three Hail Marys for her brother, and leave the rest to our Lady.

Do not open the door by allowing this woman to cry on your shoulder.

The devil is cunning.

Pablo, I don't think my neighbors plan will work and here is why...

After months of weird-ness going on in my home with doors slamming and books falling and miscellaneous nonsense going on, I finally called our priest after a 18"x24" picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus mysteriously fell and broke at 2:00 in the morning with glass all over the floor.
I tried sprinkling holy water and saying some prayers but nothing much changed until after our priest did pretty much the same thing that I had done, then it occurred to me that not only was I impotent and ineffectual but that there was power in the priesthood and that they actual HAVE authority and power which I then related to confession and the other sacraments but this power was not something that I could possess. I now know my place.

You see I'm a "No nothing" convert and everything I've learned about Catholicism I've learned by eye witness examples. I don't know what I'm supposed to know like the baptism information which you had posted onto my blog. I really appreciated it and so did my blog administrator.

- I will continue to welcome my neighbor into my home. Her brother -not so much. I love my neighbors.

And yes, the devil is cunning, why only a month or so ago I saw ....
....and he was cunning indeed and also fraudulent, hate fulled, pretentious and terrifying and the hate he feels for us is incomprehensible by our human minds and he walks around as if he owns the place which I thought - He's also got some nerve.

When the Devil appears in the form of a large black dog with red eyes and growling fiercely, it is because he is losing.

Satan is the Father of Lies.

If he walks around like he owns the place, it is because he is losing control of that place.

Saint Michael Defend Us In Battle is an ejaculation you might say during the day.

And if your Guardian Angel awakens you during the night, say the Saint Michael prayer and the three Hail Marys for whomever your angel thinks needs them.

God converted you for His greater glory.

I helped a Priest while he was performing an Exorcism…

The Devil got mad and slammed me into the hospital for emergency surgery. First time in my life I was in the hospital.

The day after my surgery, the Surgeons visited me one by one. I noticed they looked scared.

I got it out of my nurse that they came to visit me because I came closer to death than anyone they had ever seen in their hospital.

This past December I visited an old Cristero Nun friend of mine in Mexico City.

We had not seen each other for two years.

She told me ‘Pablo, what happened to you? The angel of the Lord came to me and said ‘Wake up and pray for Pablo, for he is gravely ill’…”

She swore it was not a ghost; he appeared in bodily form in her room at the convent and she also reminded me no one knows she and I are friends, or how to contact her or me.

“But the Lord knows how”.

I told her thanks for her prayers. “If you had not prayed for me I wouldn’t be here giving you these hundred bucks as a donation”

We both laughed and rejoiced in the Lord.

You are not alone for one instant.

The angels and the Saints are there for us; but we need to call upon them. It is not permitted you see the Holy Angels that surround us, but Satan sees them and is afraid.

More about the Priesthood later.

I pray that God continue to bless and protect your family.

Hahahaha
When God converted me,he was sweeping up the dregs. hahahaha
- sad but true. He could have done better.

God makes the blind see, the lame walk, and the dumb blog. hahahaha
******
Heck yes those doctors looked scared. They're not stupid.

Why would you be asked to attend such an event anyway? Are you a priest? I think perhaps I would be brave enough to be there but not spiritually fit enough to participate and that's the worst combo. The combination of a fool in fact.

Divine Providence will have the last laugh:

An Exorcism does not have to entail a diabolically possessed person.

Satan was moving people to kill two Priests.

The Padre stepped in and performed an Exorcism Ritual.

I was asked to pray the Holy Rosary in support of the Padre.

The Devil became angry at the interruption of his plans.

He took a swipe at me, and is causing the Padre many problems. He did not get to kill the Priests.

I knew I was walking into a buzz saw by helping.

I am not a Priest, but I can and will help one, no questions asked.

No matter what the consequences.

May God our Lord in His infinite and supreme goodness be pleased to give us His abundant grace, that we may know His most holy will, and entirely fulfill it.

"...but not spiritually fit enough to participate..."

Once when someone was growling at me, he accused me of being ill prepared and not pious enough to fight him.

I told him it was not on my authority that I was fighting him, but with my Mother standing behind me providing all I would need.

He turned around and simply walked away; crestfallen that a woman had whipped him.

Do not gather your arms and take account of your ammunition before fighting powers and municipalities; you are ill equipped.

Pray the Holy Rosary well before hand, that Saint Michael the Archangel have full acount of who and what you are, that he may assist you with no need to cry out to him.

He moves quickly; after all, he has to answer to our Mother also.

Christ has a wonderful Mother.
