New Brain-Wave Toy Lets You Do 'Jedi Mind Trick'

The Force can be with anyone now.

Later this summer, anybody anywhere will have the ability to physically move stuff with their minds like characters do in "Star Wars." No joke.

A new toy that harnesses the same technology doctors use to monitor brain waves will arrive in stores in August. The toy moves when it senses a change in the user's brain-wave patterns.

"It's pretty cutting-edge," says Frank Adler, executive vice president of Uncle Milton Industries, the toy company that manufactures the "Star Wars"-branded Force Trainer. "It certainly appears to be where things are headed."

It will be if the reaction from 5-year-old "Star Wars" fanatic Ryan Mogg is any indication. Mogg tried out the Force Trainer at a recent "Star Wars" toy fair.

In less than a minute, he was controlling the rise and fall of a pingpong ball in a clear tube — with his brain waves.

"It's like what Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul do!" he said afterward with a big grin.

L.A. Diocesan Spokesman: Mel Gibson is "not a Roman Catholic"

"(Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony's) diocesan spokesman Tod Tamberg declared: “Mel Gibson is not a Roman Catholic and is not subject to the canons of Catholic law.”

And he added tersely: “Repeat – he’s not a Roman Catholic and is not subject to our process regarding marriage and annulment.”

Devout Gibson, 53, has adopted a traditional or “Old -Roman” form of the faith.

This includes the celebration of the Tridentine Mass in its original Latin format.

Followers are not recognised by the modern church. Gibson’s friends are furious over Cardinal Mahony’s public attack.

One said yesterday: “It’s like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut or, in this case, pointing the finger of God at a famous guy who is an easy target.”

Mel’s wife Robyn, 52, filed for divorce last week.

The couple married in 1980 and have one daughter, six sons and one grandchild."

St. Rose in Quincy to be chapel for extraordinary form of Mass

QUINCY - Bishop George J. Lucas has given permission for St. Rose of Lima Church, Eighth and Chestnut, to be used as a chapel for regular celebration of the extraordinary form of the Mass in the Roman Rite.

In his July 2007 apostolic letter Summorum Pontificum, Pope Benedict XVI granted broader permission for the use of the extraordinary form of the liturgy, sometimes known as the Tridentine or Traditional Latin Mass. Shortly afterward, a group of lay Catholics from the Quincy region approached Bishop Lucas for permission to use St. Rose Church as a site for celebration of the extraordinary form...

After consultation with priests of the Quincy Deanery, Bishop Lucas granted permission to use the church, which will be known as St. Rose of Lima Chapel. A not-for-profit organization, the Latin Mass Society of Quincy, was formed to take responsibility for the facilities, which includes the church, rectory and parish hall.

The chapel will be staffed by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, founded in 1988 with the approval of Pope John Paul II to provide priests conversant in the celebration of the extraordinary form.
