I think he died on Christmas day in the 80s ('85?) Supposedly, when he was starting out, he tried to imitate Bing Crosby...sounds a little like him on this song. And, despite his persona as a drunk, reportedly what he was drinking was apple juice. (Please don't disabuse me of my notions!)
