I've kinda wondered why the Register hadn't sought out an financial "angel" to help them recruit Allen. He sure would bring a lot of Reporter people with him, I would think.

But as the article says, I've been having some uncomfortable feelings about some of Allen's pieces these past few months. It was somewhat surprising to me because last Fall I heard him speak over at St. Kate's for a joint convocation with St Thomas. The subject of the talk was a book that he had written a year earlier on the future of the Church in the U.S. Apparently the Katies never read the book, because he pretty much just talked about what he had written. "No Spirit of Vatican Two for You, peoples!"

I left with the distinct impression that all those grey-haired older ladies in the audience weren't particularly happy with what he had to say. And after the welcoming applause, the reaction could have been best described as "polite."

It's almost as if he has been told to write the "party-line."

I'll play on Fr. Sticha's team any day!!!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08332138030182107580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3147998851717628040.post-43746560817377811902011-05-21T10:22:39.886-07:002011-05-21T10:22:39.886-07:00The big, blinding group that Allen misses is those...The big, blinding group that Allen misses is those of us in the Church who want to follow Christ and His Church with no exceptions. We don't fall into any "tribe", except Christ's.

- We're pro-life, but also have a concern for the poor.
- We want well-celebrated liturgy, but also want people to participate with their prayers, singing and responses. (Not a contradiction, BTW.)
- We want laity to be involved in the life of the Church, but also realize that the clergy is set apart by Christ for a specific role.
- We want to catechize our people, while still evangelizing the world.

In short, we want all of Christ, not just what fits in our world view. One thing we do not want, and NnCR (National not-Catholic Reporter) epitomizes, is to deny any of Christ's teachings. Pleasant or unpleasant, popular or unpopular, in season or out of season, we want it all!Fr. Cory Stichahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17487451365517366466noreply@blogger.com
